Flooding in Sioux City, IA July, 2011

Today was a very hot day in Sioux City, IA. We took a Sunday trip there to do some errands and to attend the Magic Club meeting there.

I think most everyone probably knows that the Missouri River has been flooded since about June 1 or so. We were in Sioux City today and took some pictures of some of the flooded areas.

This is a bicycle/hiking trail, or was where a bicycle/hiking trail was along side the river. We have ridden, walked, and roller bladed on that trail, but not today.

This is a park along the river. There are a lot of sand bags to hold back the water.
This is a fairly new hotel on the banks of the river. Next to it, behind the trees, is one of our favorite restaurants, Bev's on the River. The road leading to this area is flooded so you can't get there.
This is where the dock was where we used to put in our boat. Not this year.
This is another view of the hotel and restaurant.
This is the road that leads to the marina, Bev's on the River, a restaurant, the new hotel, the Visitor's Center, and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, all places inaccessible because of the flooded road.

This is a dike that was built to protect the area where the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is.
This is the flooded marina.
This is the Pavilion Park where they used to hold church services, have special events like Art in the Park, etc. Not this year.
This is the Argosy Casino, but it is a boat so it just floats up a little higher than normal.
The Argosy is in the background on the Sioux City, IA side. In the foreground is a pretty new Y that was built on the South Sioux City, NE side along the banks of the river. It's a lovely facility, but it's not being used right now.

There are lots of sand bags all around it.

It is next to this nice park over there.
This is looking across to the Iowa side from the Nebraska side.
This is a nice park on the NE side.

This is a mega soccer field area on the NE side. No soccer there this year.
