Because of Bob's interest in magic and in gospel magic, we attended this workshop for Society of Christian Magicians in Shawnee, KS. They have a little of everything, magic, face painting, clowns, puppets, balloons, ventriloquists, and story telling. There are sessions for each genre, so to speak, and at the end there is a show that is open to the participants as well as the public. There was a great turn out. There were vendors there to tempt you to buy more magic tricks, etc. which we did.
This is the session on face painting that I attended. It was fun to support our local Magic Club members who were teaching the session. A lot of times clowns are equipped with magic tricks to entertain people with whom they come into contact.
The participants were allowed to try their hand at face painting. Notice the dummy heads. They are from a beauty school in Le Mars. After they cut off all the hair for practice, they throw the heads away. The heads were retrieved for a very good purpose.
There was a guy there who showed us how to use bear balloons. Here is a poster of what he could make.
Here are some of his creations.
One of the sessions was on puppetry. The presenter is a child minister who does puppetry ministry. He had some of his students there to help and to present a puppet show at the end of the workshop.
We all got to make a sock puppet, simple, but effective. Then he showed us the basic ways of moving the mouth and making a puppet come to life.
This presenter is a clown, but she doesn't have on her costume. She shared a lot of fun things she does as a clown, including showing off her "pet" skunk.
One of the sessions was how to do clown make up so a lot of people were walking around with clown faces.
This was the Em Cee for the show. He's doing an opening trick before introducing the acts.
These clown nuns entered the hall at the beginning of the show.
The puppet show.
Here is one of the magicians doing a messy trick. That's why she's making that face. If I had a camera on the audience, I think everyone's face would have looked like this.
One of the magicians made a dove appear a couple of times. Amazing!!!!
He also did some very clever gospel magic tricks.
There was a cute clown act. The one on the left is the one who had the session and showed us her pet skunk, a picture above. She looks a lot different here!!!!!
Another magician with an audience participant.
This is the woman who is charge of and makes the workshop happen. She is a story teller and motivational speaker. Sometimes she has her bunny puppet to make it more fun.
The guy in the blue coat was kind of the key note speaker. He is a doctor, but also an evangelist and magician. He was VERY entertaining. Here he is doing a trick with an audience participant.
A lot of the clowns just dressed up in their costumes for the show whether or not they performed. They're kind of "on stage" if they have on their costumes. They are fun people.
