A Beautiful Sunday at De Leon Springs

One beautiful Sunday afternoon in January, we decided to take about an hour's drive to a place called De Leon Springs.  It is a state park that used to be a grand resort.  We thought we'd get to see manatees, but the water wasn't really clear enough to see them, but we certainly enjoyed this beautiful park.

One reason I really liked the park is because of this very nice cemented swimming pool.  The water from a spring and is always 72 degrees which is too cold for me, but some people were actually swimming.  The air temperature might have been 75 degrees, nice but not for swimming.

This is the lake that is fed by the spring and it flows into a river.

Someone in the pool.  Nice but Brrrrrrr.

We decided to take this little pontoon boat tour to see some "wild" life of Florida.  It was a very nice tour on a beautiful day.

This is a little water fall separating the pool from the lake/river.

Florida in the wild

.

We found an alligator on the shore so we went  up close so we could get a nice picture of him.

After the boat tour we walked along some of the trails.  We saw a big cypress tree called Methuselah.

We also followed some paths that looked like this.  You can take a 4 mile hike in terrain like this, but you have to register with the park ranger so in case something goes wrong they'll know to look for you I guess.  Unless the alligators get you first.

There's an old mill on the property that has been turned into a restaurant which serves all the pancakes you can eat.   You make them yourself on a built-in grill in the middle of your table.  We didn't do that this trip, but you'll see that we did on another trip with some friends.

This sign tells information about the swimming pool.
