First Day in San Antonio With Max and Amy

We drove a grueling 15 hours from Tuscaloosa to San Antonio through 3 traffic jams, some rain, and through Houston, a gigantic city, but we made it safe and sound. Susie and I stayed up for a while to visit before it was time to settle down and relax for sleep time.

The next morning, Amy and Max came over, and after screaming when he saw me, he settled down to enjoy his jumper and other toys in the house. He did get used to me during the day. That's a good thing.

Here he is getting ready to go eat lunch and go the the children's museum down town.
We ate at Taco Cabana. Max is learning how to use a spoon to eat. Mom is helping him, and he is catching on to the idea, but his best method is still his hands.
There was a toddler section of the children's museum where Mom and Grandma helped him explore all the neat things there.

Probably his favorite thing of all was meeting a little girl about his age. It was just a brief encounter, but you can tell how he enjoyed it. First the larger girl got in between the two.
But later, they made that connection. Such an adoring look!
Turning a wheel with Grandma.
Not really enjoying the big machinery for moving rocks. Maybe he'll enjoy it another time when he's older.

He thought Linda was pretty cute dressed up as a cow and showing him farm animals.

Then we went shopping.
He enjoyed making a connection with the pretend food. He's kind of a meat and potatoes guy.
You can't beat steak and lobster.
Or chocolate cake with strawberries.
This is the fish that didn't get away. Doesn't he look proud?
Pickles are always good.
Then we visited a table that displayed the map of the world. For some reason Max really liked this area, and he went from continent to continent. I think he's going to be a traveler. He was especially attracted to Africa. Maybe that's because his Aunt Patsy is leaving for Africa in a couple of days.
He is pointing out South America to us.

He lay all over Africa. Safari anyone?
We tried to get Max to crawl through this little tunnel, but he never did quite make it even though Grandma was on the other side. Linda was trying to get him to go, but it just didn't work.

Almost, but not quite. He kept shaking his head, "NO!"
We had a great time. He fell asleep as soon as we buckled him in his car seat. I'm sure he'll be visiting the children's museum again.

After we got home and everyone left, Susie, Bob, and I played games on the Wii. That was fun too.
