New England Cruise Days 1 and 2 (Cruising) and Day 3 (Halifax)

Since we were in Boston, we decided to continue our sibling reunion with a New England cruise from Boston to Halifax, Nova Scotia with other ports being St. John, New Brunswick, Bar Harbor, ME, and Portland, ME.  I was a little worried I would get sea sick, but I was pleased that I did not.  I was prepared, just in case.  I did have the patch and some dramamine which I did not have to use.  But I did use ginger tablets and acupressure bracelets.

Here we are on the ship hanging out waiting until they allow us to go to our staterooms.

They served lunch during that time in their informal buffet style restaurant.  Of course good food is one of the main things offered on cruises so when on cruises do as cruise people do, EAT.

Dolphin ice sculpture.

Nancy's outfit matched one of the hallway carpets so I had to take this picture.
 The view from the ship.

The pool that I did not have time to use.   Besides, it was chilly.  There was an indoor one, but I never got around to using it either.

The Jewel of the Seas was our Royal Caribbean ship that we were on.

There were murals on the dock and while we were doing our safety drill I had a good view of them.
Here's one with swans.  Look closely.

Here we are at our muster station hearing the safety talk, etc.

We joined the staff for some bon voyage dancing.

Gary and Rosemary watching from above.

A view as we left Boston.

Each night our dining time was 5:30 in the formal dining room.  The first night was an informal night since everyone didn't have their luggage yet.

This was our server every night.  She was very accommodating.

After dinner there was dancing so the sisters danced.

This was our stateroom.  Unfortunately I took these pictures before the room was made up.  Oh well, the lived in look.  We paid a little extra to have a room with a window.  The window did not open, but I liked being able to look out and see what was outside.

Every day they had competition games, trivia, crossword, suduko, etc.  We enjoyed being part of that.  You played with a team so we became the Hoppy Harem team.  Here we are winning the crossword puzzle competition.

Time for a dance lesson.  I think it was salsa and line dancing.

Kathy and Susie played some BINGO.  They did not win.  But wait til you hear about Nancy, the big winner and queen of the Hopkins Harem.

We clean up pretty good, don't we?  This was one of the formal nights where  they asked you to dress for the formal dining room.  It was kind of fun to do that.  I guess it was a good time because it had been a day of cruising, no ports so everyone could have time to dress up accordingly.

Since this trip was in honor of my brother's 70th birthday, we chose this night to recognize him.  So he got some cake with a candle and we sang happy birthday to him.

When we got back to our stateroom we found the infamous towel animal.  I'm not sure what it was, but it was cute.

The evening entertainment for us was Finish the Lyric competition.  Gary and Nancy we two of the contestants.  Unfortunately Gary was eliminated on his first try because they gave him a newer song instead of an oldie but goodie.  He know most of the songs that followed.  Oh well.

Nancy, on the other hand, made it to the finals.  It was amazing how many song lyrics she could sing.

She ended up in the Hot Seat and had to sing the lyrics of 7 songs for each of her prizes, but if she missed, she had to give a prize back.  She lost a couple of prizes during it all, but we sisters ended up going up and helping her by wiping her brow, standing and kneeling by her side to give her encouragement.  It worked because she won.

Here she is getting her certificate and they decided to give her ALL the prizes.

Here she is with the Emcee and her bag of goodies, cap, umbrella, etc.  One of the prizes was free BINGO.  Wait till you hear what happened with that.  She was amazing!!!!!!!

Every night there was an entertaining show in their theater.  I missed the first night because it was too crowded and rocky and I knew I'd better not stay there.  But this night was the Drifters. They sand a lot of nostalgic songs and we all enjoyed the show.  Pictures after the show were a treat.

Our first port was Halifax, Nova Scotia.  We got off the boat and took a bus trip to get a flavor of Halifax.

Our tour guide wore a kilt so I guess women wear them too.

We stopped at the public gardens.

Then we stopped at the Citadel.  We got there in time to watch the changing of the guard.

The Citadel was the fortress that protected Halifax.

Views from the Citadel.

This was a clock that was donated to the city by a duke who had to leave his love there in Halifax.  Marriage was not possible since she was a commoner.

Buying pop or sodas was very expensive on the ship so Susie was drawn to these machines.

After our tour they took us back to the ship, but there was a really long line to get back on.  Evidently the wind blew the ship and the gangplank had to be readjusted.  I thought we'd take for ever to get back on, but surprisingly it took little time and the staff were all there explaining what was going on and keeping us in a good mood.  We left the dock on time too.

More dancing time, line dancing.

This night they played "Battle of the Sexes".  The first competition, Gary and and Kathy participated.  The task was to quickly get in numerical order of a 6 digit number that was called out.  There was a boy team and a girl team.  The men won this one.

The next competition was to build a paper airplane and fly it.  The farthest one won for their team.  Patsy, Susie, and I participated in this one.  And Gary also was on the boy team.  Gary's went the farthest of any so he won for the guys.

The next competition was passing the bowling pin.  It looks a little intimate, but I never had to get into any of these positions.  I think the girls won this competition.

The girls won 22 to 16.  Of course.

Here we are being silly at the piano bar.  The gal who sang there made it a lot of fun.  We joined in.
