New England Cruise Day 7 (Portland, ME) and The End

Our last day's port of call was Portland, ME.  Gary, Rosemary, Kathy, Patsy, and Nancy all booked tours, but Susie, Bob, and I did not so it was kind of a lazy day.  We started in the buffet restaurant where they were serving this huge  Boston Cream Pie because our next stop was Boston, the end of the cruise.  They only served it from 11:00 am till 2:00 pm.  We did get our fair share.  Yea!!!!  I do love Boston Cream Pie so it was quite a treat.

I took a few pictures from the ship, and then Susie and I went ashore to get a little flavor of Portland.  It was a dreary, sprinkly day, but we didn't get too wet.  Bob decided to stay on the ship, work out, and entered the ping pong contest, which he won.  He was so proud.

We didn't get any lobster here, but one night one of the entrees at dinner was lobster so that was really good.  We did find out on one of our tours in Canada that Maine lobster usually comes from Canada.  But Maine is still noted for their good lobster.  Here is evidence that it is readily available.

Susie wanted me to take this picture, but I'm not sure why.

Susie and others spent almost every day looking at scarves, and Susie found the perfect one with the perfect price right here in Portland.  She was so happy.  Nice souvenir.

As we left Portland and during our dinner time we passed this light house so I had to try to take a picture.  This was probably one of the best even though it isn't the best picture.  We were moving, and it was getting dark.  Lighthouses are quite prominent in this neck of the woods.

This was our last night for dinner at the formal dining room.

Notice Bob's medal he won for winning the ping pong contest.

Here are Ryan and Athena.  Their table was right next to ours, and they seemed to hang out a lot of the places we hung out, especially when it had to do with singing and karaoke. They live in Georgia and were also Alabama fans so there were several connections.  They were a younger couple celebrating their first anniversary, but they enjoyed hanging out with us because of similar interests.

The last night, the dining room staff was recognized.  They certainly served us well, and they went out of their way to make our dining experience special.

After packing all our bags and putting them out to be picked up by the staff for debarking the next morning, we all headed for the two hour karaoke time which was only for fun.  We met up with some of the regulars and enjoyed everyone's singing and comraderie.

Gary came late because he was trying to consolidate all our pictures onto a CD.  It took more time than he expected, but he did get in on some of the fun.  Thanks, Gary.

We loved our host.  She hosted several events and always made it fun and special.

The next morning it was time to debark.  It went very smoothly.  You were assigned a time, and you could wait comfortably in lounge areas until you were called.

After debarking, our luggage was waiting.  Luggage had a number tag on it to identify the location where you would find it.  Unfortunately, Rosemary's tag had fallen off, and it was quite an effort to find it, but finally it was found.  Yea.  Then we all traveled to the airport together to catch our respective flights.  We used the same transport service we used to go from the Embassy Suites to the cruise ship a week earlier.

Everyone had a great time and flights home were "smooth sailing."   Susie, however, did opt to volunteer giving up her seat, and stayed in Boston over night at Southwest's expense as well as receiving a voucher for a future flight.   We could have done the same, but we decided it was time to go home.  Susie, what is your next trip?  Nancy, we know where yours will be.  Family time is so special.  Hope there will be many more to come.
